Born in Cheshire in 1963, Julian Bailey studied at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford (1982–85), before completing an MA at the Royal Academy Schools (1985–88).

He was awarded the Turner Gold Medal in 1986 and the Landseer Scholarship in 1988.

Bailey held his first solo exhibition in London in 1991 and has since exhibited regularly, including numerous solo exhibitions at Browse & Darby, London. His work is held in public and private collections in the UK and internationally, including the collection of HRH The Prince of Wales.

He lives and works in Dorset.
